Vimor Handloom Foundation/Vimor

Website

I am Pavithra Muddaya a handloom practitioner from 50 years. I am the co-founder of Vimor which was started in 1974 by Mrs. Chimy Nanjappa and myself, with a focus on selling heritage handloom sarees and creating and supporting the revival of handloom sarees. Fuelled by Vimor's passion to provide a now lease of life to handloom, Vimor Handloom Foundation was established in 2004. The Foundation has helped weavers across the country sustain their traditional occupation of weaving, an art form slowly dying in today's world of power loom. Through our projects, we conduct design interventions, training programs and skill education workshops to help weavers and artisans attain financial stability and safe living conditions within their geographical areas. Taking precedence over the legacy of Vimor, the Foundation opened ‘The Vimor Museum of Living Textiles in 2019 – a space to preserve and showcase unique textile designs and heirlooms donated by people across India along with Vimor’s personal collection.
