India Recycles was founded by Renu Pokharna in 2017 after she observed the rapid disposal of clothing in India due to fast fashion. Initially organizing small swap events in Ahmedabad, the initiative evolved into slum sales, allowing underprivileged communities to purchase pre-loved items at nominal prices, preserving dignity and choice. Recognizing the demand, India Recycles expanded its operations through collection drives and established over 35 drop points. The organization now conducts weekly garage sales in various slums, collaborating with community leaders to ensure accessibility and affordability of essential items.
