The SU.RE project is a commitment by India’s apparel industry to set a sustainable pathway for the Indian fashion industry. SU.RE stands for ‘Sustainable Resolution’ - a firm commitment from the industry to move towards fashion that contributes to a clean environment.
The SU.RE Alliance is the initiative of CMAI (Clothing Manufacturers of India) and IMG Reliance (now RISE WORLDWIDE), and 16 top Apparel Brands of India including the Aditya Birla Group, the Arvind Group, Bestsellers, Shoppers Stop, AND, Biba, amongst others.
The Ministry of Textiles, Government of India was established for the formulation of policy, planning, development, export promotion and regulation of the textile industry in India. Their mission is to position India as a Global Textiles manufacturing hub while keeping sustainability at the fore, ensuring large-scale livelihood opportunities, providing impetus to traditional sectors and becoming Atma-nirbhar in the raw material value chain.
The United Nations provides strategic support to India to help the country achieve its aspirations and promote sustainable development in line with the globally agreed SDGs. The UN also supports India, as the world’s largest democracy, in the country’s ambitious commitments to rapid change and development priorities.
The Clothing Manufacturers Association Of India (CMAI) is the pioneer and most representative Association of the Indian apparel industry for over five decades. It has a membership base of over 20,000 companies, including Readymade Garment Manufacturers, Exporters, Retailers and Ancillary Industry.
Established in 2007, Reliance Brands Limited was born for new age consumers in India with increased international exposure, brand awareness, lifestyle aspirations and spending power than ever before. In the attempt to marry the brands with the smart customer, RBL has brought home 85 international brands, some of whom have their largest markets in India.
In partnership with the British Council, SU.RE endeavours to reinforce sustainability within India's apparel sector, fostering global alliances and knowledge exchange. This strategic collaboration not only empowers SU.RE signatories to transform into sustainable brands but also serves as a conduit for collaboration with like-minded partners in the UK, Copenhagen and beyond.
