SU.RE - Sustainable Resolution is the Indian Apparel Industry’s largest voluntary commitment to sustainability is an initiative by the Clothing Manufacturing Association of India (CMAI), Reliance Brands Limited (RBL), UN in India, and The Ministry of Textiles India aiming to catalyse the industry’s transition towards sustainability.
The SU.RE project is a commitment by India’s apparel industry to set a sustainable pathway for the Indian fashion industry. SU.RE stands for ‘Sustainable Resolution’ - a firm commitment from the industry to move towards fashion that contributes to a clean environment.
Launched in August 2019, the SU.RE Alliance is the initiative of CMAI (Clothing Manufacturers of India and IMG Reliance (now RISE WORLDWIDE), and 16 top Apparel Brands of India at that time including the Aditya Birla Group, the Arvind Group, Bestsellers, Shoppers Stop, AND, Biba, amongst others.
Commit to the use of natural, regenerative, recycled, and new-generation low-impact materials, emphasizing circularity in processes. Explore and implement business models focused on reuse, resale, and recycling to extend the life cycle of products and reduce waste. Prioritize innovative approaches that contribute to a circular economy and support long-term ecological balance.
Aim for significant reductions in environmental impact by prioritizing water conservation, chemical management, and renewable energy adoption. Set ambitious net-zero carbon emission goals by revisiting supply chains and processes to minimize emissions. Implement strategies that promote energy efficiency and reduce waste across all operations.
Drive systemic change in the fashion industry by committing to improved labor standards, promoting social equity, and empowering women. Focus on initiatives that enhance labor welfare, health, and safety, ensuring ethical practices throughout the supply chain. Support the overall sustainability of the industry by addressing social challenges with inclusive and equitable solutions.
Embrace collective responsibility by collaborating with industry peers to tackle shared sustainability challenges. Engage in collective action to address common issues such as supply chain transparency, resource efficiency, and sustainable sourcing. Foster partnerships that drive progress towards a more sustainable and resilient fashion industry.
Effectively communicate sustainability initiatives to consumers through diverse channels, including online platforms, physical stores, product labels, and social media. Engage consumers in the sustainability journey by fostering awareness and encouraging responsible consumption. Integrate technology to enhance transparency and traceability across the value chain, involving consumers in the process and building trust through clear, accessible information.
Through these actions shift a significant percentage of our supply chain to a sustainable chain by the year 2030, addressing critical global issues such as climate change, contributing to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and building a world that is safe for the future generations, as an acceptance of a responsibility we all share.
